Have you heard about the Lean Six Sigma belt certification system? Wondering what the various belts mean, or, more importantly, wondering which belt certification might be right for you?

In the Lean Six Sigma methodology, there are four levels of certification corresponding to four colors of belts: White, Yellow, Green, and Black. Just like in martial arts, a Black Belt is the highest achievement. However, unlike martial arts, it is not necessary to start with the White Belt level and work your way up through the ranks. You can begin training at the level you want to attain.

Here are a few reasons why becoming a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt might be the best choice for you:

  1. You want to work as a change agent but not full-time. Green Belt training will teach you all about the Lean Six Sigma Methodology, enabling you to both lead and supports improvement projects. Green Belts typically pursue quality improvement measures as a part-time role, continuing with their normal job responsibilities.
  2. You want to lead projects with the occasional need of assistance from Lean Six Sigma Black Belts or Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belts. Unlike White and Yellow Belts, Green Belts regularly lead projects of all sizes and assume a greater level of responsibility when working as a member of a team.
  3. You want to understand all aspects of all phases of the Define-Measure–Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) cycle. Yellow Belt certification emphasizes the Define-Measure-Control phases and leaves out the technical content covered in the Analyze and Improve phases. If you want to be well-versed in the entire cycle, Green Belt training is a better choice for you.
  4. You want to increase your employability with Lean Six Sigma Certification. Green Belt certification is a valuable tool that will make you a more attractive job candidate. Employers value the skills you will learn through Lean Six Sigma training!
