Hi, my name is Sam and I would like to talk a little about how my Lean Six Sigma experience changed my life.

Why did you go into Lean Six Sigma training?

I started noticing things were changing at work. Not anything you could really put your finger on but there was a tension in the air. You know whispers here and there about changes coming in the company and so on. One day and I overheard my boss say that there was going to be some belt-tightening and possible cut backs. Well, to say the least, that got me to thinking.

What did you do?

I went to my boss and asked if there was anything I could do to make myself more marketable. She looked at me for a moment and said; “If you really want my opinion, look into Lean Six Sigma”. I told her thanks and left the office.

Then I did a search and found out all I could about Lean Six Sigma and places I could get training. The search alone really opened my eyes. I mean these sites were talking about life changing events here. Not only in the workplace but in your personal life too. Plus they made it sound interesting and not that hard to do. I knew there would be a challenges but the site let me know there would be someone there to help me through it all.

Did you decide to get the training?

Yes, but I took a little time to think it through. I decided that since my degree was in business, the Lean Six Sigma training would fit right in with that and what I did for a living. So the next day I went to my boss and told her I was going to take the Lean Six Sigma training.

What happened then?

She was ecstatic! She said she had hoped I would say that. We sat down right then and worked out a way I could take the classes and still work full-time. My job even gave me a little money to help with the cost of the training. By the time I went home that night I had signed up for classes and was ready to go.

So how is learning Lean Six Sigma working for you?

In, what seems like overnight, I have a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma and a totally new way to look at life. The changes at work passed me by with no problem. I actually got a promotion to go with my Green Belt. Also while I was studying I was able to apply what I was learning to circumstances at work and helped my company find ways to save a lot of money. Heck, I found things in my personal life that I could be doing much more effectively.
